OLDHAM is the UK's luckiest town for Premium Bond winners.

The town had more top winners as a proportion of Premium Bonds held than anywhere else in the country.

It snatched the top spot from Sunderland, the country's previous luckiest spot.

Research from National Savings and Investments found that Salisbury, Lancaster and east London were second, third and fourth, respectively. Doncaster came fifth.

But Halifax, Galashiels and Central London East are the unluckiest places.

Across the UK, 23m people own Premium Bonds, worth £26bn.

All are entered into each monthly draw, winning more than 1m prizes worth over £69m. Prizes range from £50 to the jackpot £1m.
