THE voices of pupils at a Highfields school delighted judges at the Janet Beaumont Musical Competition in Paddock.

Judges at the competition, held at the Jubilee community centre, awarded Mountjoy House School's junior choir - The Swans - a distinction mark when it won the Armstrong Shield for 11 and under choirs.

The school's infant choir, The Cygnets, also won a distinction.

Both choirs are taught by Mrs Jill Lambert and accompanied by Dr Geoff Lockwood.

The school recorder group also gained a distinction with a piece entitled Miller Madness. It was arranged for them by recorder teacher Mrs Lambert.

Tarron Frampton-Clarke, a member of The Cygnets, won the Edward Bruce Memorial Cup for classical piano in the seven years and under category.
