TWO pigs have been named in a competition for children – but they will be on the menu in a few days.

The two black saddleback pigs were called Bubble and Squeak by three-year-old Olivia Fairbank, from Skelmanthorpe.

They were named in a competition at Hinchliffe’s Old Farm House Tea Room, Netherton.

The contest aimed to promote local produce and teach youngsters where food comes from.

Other suggestions for the porky pair’s monikers included Dandelion and Burdock from Finlay Hallas, eight, from Honley, and Sage and Onion from a three-year-old from Birkby.

Time is now running out for Bubble and Squeak who will be on the menu at the Tea Room next week.

Manageress Louise Bonnar said: “The contest’s been a great success.

“A lot of parents have said it was a great idea because the children have to learn.

“It’s good because we have local produce and people know exactly where’s it’s from, what it’s been fed and how it’s been looked after.”
