A MASSIVE club night in Huddersfield headlined by world-famous DJ Pete Tong was a roaring success.

And its organisers say the sky’s the limit now when it comes to attracting big name acts to play in the town.

The sell-out Afterparty event, held at Bates’s Mill warehouse on Friday night until the early hours of Saturday morning, was a huge success and attracted 1,000 clubbers from all over the area.

Its organisers had feared that the huge event, a massive coup for Huddersfield, wouldn’t get the go-ahead following complaints from neighbours about the potential noise– but it was saved at the eleventh hour by Kirklees Council’s Licensing Panel.

Organiser and DJ Martin Doorly said the night, which was broadcast live nationally on Radio 1, couldn’t have gone better.

He said: “It was a brilliant night. We were all worried that it wasn’t going to happen, so was great when the council said it could go ahead because it really was a fantastic event for Huddersfield.

“Everyone said what a fantastic night it was; Radio 1 said they’ve never seen an atmosphere like it and they’re definitely coming back again. The warehouse is such a terrific venue, so I think that really helped create the great atmosphere.

“Pete Tong was amazing and when we interviewed him he said he loved it. He plays gigs all over the world, but he told us that Huddersfield was great!

“The night just couldn’t have gone better – a lot of people said it was the best night they’d ever had.”

With the seal of approval from the likes of Tong, huge acts in the dance and clubbing scenes are now queuing up to play in the town, with big names like Armand Van Helden set to play at a future Afterparty event.

There’s even the possibility that legendary DJ Fatboy Slim, famed for playing some of the biggest and best events in the world, will be heading to Huddersfield.

“If we get Fatboy Slim then that’s it – you just can’t get any better than that,” enthused Martin.

“A scene is definitely emerging in Huddersfield to rival some of the big cities like Leeds and Manchester, which is great news for the town because it really puts it on the map.

“There was a time when big acts would have turned their noses up at Huddersfield and said that it was too small for them to play, but now they’re queuing up and are actually more likely to come here than places like Leeds!

“This is great for other bars and clubs in the town because it helps promote them and bring more people into them – it’s also great for the university because it’s bound to attract more students!”

The organisers hope to build on the success of the weekend’s event and hold four big Afterparty events a year in several venues in the town.
