A THIEF who was found sitting in a van by its owner told him he was trying to fix it.
The victim heard a knock at his door on Longfield Close in Dalton shortly after midnight on Friday.
When he went outside he saw the man in his van and confronted him to ask what he was doing.
The man told him the door was open and he was trying to repair it.
He then walked off and the owner later found his sat-nav had been stolen.
The thief was in his 30s, slim, about 6ft tall, with shoulder-length fair hair and a multi-coloured shirt and jeans.
