A SPATE of burglaries in Slaithwaite has prompted police to issue a security warning.

Four homes in two streets in the area were broken into in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday.

And Pc Dave Mc- Sweeney, of Huddersfield Police, said in all cases the thieves had got in through unlocked doors.

He urged people to follow a strict routine checking doors and windows before they went to bed each night.

And he also reminded people not to give burglars the "easy option" by leaving valuables, car keys and handbags on kitchen work surfaces.

He said: "Before people go to bed they should check their back and front doors are locked, downstairs windows are closed and locked and integral garage doors are secure."

He also reminded people to take house door and car keys into the bedroom rather than leaving them downstairs.
