MORE than half a century separates these two images of Almondbury - but how little has changed!

One view shows Westgate in June, 1951, with work on the footpath beside All Hallows Church, opposite the Conservative Club. In 2005 the club is being refurbished and the cobblestones now lay under a tarmacadam surface.

But little else is different.

Just above the half-timbered club is The Woolpack, still a popular local pub. And the row of cottages fronting on to Westgate are still in place, albeit with some now providing homes to local businesses.

In fact, it's probably only the volume and the speed of traffic on the road that has changed - and not for the better!
