A POLITICAL expert today urged Kirklees Council to sort out its leadership mess.

Prof Brendan Evans, an expert in politics at the University of Huddersfield, said that "heads need to be banged together".

He said the current deadlock, caused by the resignation of the ruling Cabinet, was far from ideal.

"In the short term it does not cause many problems, because the officials can run the day-to-day business.

"But there could be a time when policy decisions need to be made and that is when councillors have to decide.

"It seems the best solution would be some form of three-party administration. It has worked before in Huddersfield, some years ago, but may be more difficult now it has widened out to Kirklees."
