A MODEL railway group is on the right track as members celebrate their 40th anniversary in style.

The Huddersfield Railway Modellers will mark their ruby anniversary by hosting the annual Model Rail Show this weekend.

Members of the group will welcome model rail enthusiasts and members of the public to the anniversary exhibition in Holmfirth.

Geoff Munday, a member of the club for 24 years, said: “I went to the show in September, 1983, and I’ve been a member ever since.

“There are lots of displays for people to see. The event gives people or groups the chance to show off what they’ve done and visitors the chance to see these wonderful creations.

“The detail that goes into them is fantastic. The rooftops have pigeons on them and there are models of people in the shops and on the streets.

“It really is highly creative.

“The models depict real places and occasionally we get someone who even recognises their home.

“It is a fun weekend for everyone,” said Mr Munday.

There will be 15 models on display, along with a Friends of Thomas that will give young children the chance to drive an engine.

Displays at this weekend’s exhibition include the scene at Hebden Bridge and Longroyd Bridge stations, as well as Oldham and Preston stations.

There will also be models of some European railways.

The Dingle Line will make its debut at the exhibition, operated by the club’s Live Steam Group.

Throughout the weekend there will be modelling demonstrations and stands supplying tools and kit.

Visitors interested in joining the club will be able to speak to members.

The exhibition will take place at the Civic Hall between 10am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday,

The free Heritage Bus will stop at the exhibition, leaving Huddersfield railway station on the hour each hour.
