A Honley man was caught stealing from a supermarket when he slipped over on his way out.

Darren Moorhouse, of West Avenue, admitted to theft at the Waterloo branch of Morrisons on May 27.

Kirklees magistrates heard that then the 49-year-old took some food and Jack Daniels whiskey worth £54.

He admitted that he wasn’t going to pay for anything as he had only £1.10 in cash.

But he was caught by a security officer and he fell over while leaving the Penny Lane store.

The theft put Moorhouse in breach of a conditional discharge.

This was given at the Huddersfield court in April for an offence of making off without paying for fuel.

Sonia Kidd, mitigating, said that her client had a problem with amphetamines but had sought help for this from the town’s Lifeline drugs service.

Magistrates ordered Moorhouse to comply with a six-month community order with 15 days of rehabilitative activities.

He was fined £40 and has to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.
