A THIEF ran past a group of children and stole a mobile phone from one of them.

An 11-year-old girl was standing with a group of friends at the roadside on Coach House Drive in Dalton at 9pm last night when the thief stole the Motorola Razor V3 from around her neck.

He then ran off.

He was described as a tall, Asian-looking teenager aged 15 or 16 with Afro hair.

He wore a grey tracksuit.
