A man chased by two large Rottweilers in Greenhead Park dropped his phones as he fled.

And the dog owner then stole them.

Police are now appealing for witnesses or anyone who knows who the dog owner is to contact them.

They say that at about 6.15am last Thursday the 30-year-old victim was out for a run in Greenhead Park when he was chased by the dogs near to the war memorial.

He ran to the boundary of the park and jumped over a metal fence, dropping his two mobile phones and a pair of headphones.

He turned to see the dogs being called back by their owner, who then picked up the dropped items. He then went off towards the playground despite the victim asking him to give his things back.

Police are looking for a man described as being of middle eastern appearance, about 5ft 8ins tall and slim. He wore a grey or dark coloured tracksuit.

The stolen phones were a white Samsung Galaxy Note and a silver HTC One.

A red pair of Beats headphones were also taken.

Anyone who knows the dog owner’s identity or who has any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact Pc Nathan Stone, of Huddersfield North Neighbourhood Police, via the non-emergency number 101.
