A TEENAGER has become Huddersfield’s third murder victim in 14 days.

The body of the 18-year-old youth was found close to a former mill pond at the Lockwood Park sports complex.

And after the grim discovery in the early hours of yesterday, detectives confirmed they are treating his death as murder.

The victim has not been named but flowers left close to the scene near Bridge Street, Lockwood, paid tribute to Robert or Rob.

His death comes only two weeks after the murder of four-year-old Ryan Hawkins, in Slaithwaite, and the killing of Huddersfield woman Geraldine Brocklehurst last Thursday.

Police were today still examining the scene of the latest murder, off Brewery Drive, which leads to Huddersfield Rugby Union Club.

The entire complex was sealed off for the whole of yesterday, meaning hundreds of people were unable to visit the club for a charity game or use the Fitness First health club on the site.

A police spokesman said today: “The death is being investigated by West Yorkshire’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

“Inquiries are continuing and police are still working at the scene.

“A post-mortem on the victim is to take place today.

“We are unable to confirm his identity, but he is believed to be 18 and from the local area.

“A 38-year-old man who was held in connection with the inquiry yesterday remains in police custody”.
