A NAVY veteran who cheated death in the Second World War has revealed another life-saving tale.

Colin Cartmell, 80, of Clayton West, "died" twice after collapsing with a heart attack while playing badminton.

His life was saved by firefighters, who twice resuscitated him with a portable defibrillator.

Mr Cartmell survived the sinking of the battleship HMS Barham in the Mediterranean in 1941.

Now his wife, Eileen, has told how his life was saved four years ago, after the heart attack.

Firefighters used the defibrillator - which shocks the heart back to life - after Mr Cartmell collapsed at Bradford's Richard Dunn Sports Centre.

Mrs Cartmell said: "He has been ever so lucky."

The couple have just returned from a Heroes Return trip to the Mediterranean, to pay tribute to the 861 men who lost their lives when the Barham was torpedoed.
