SHE’S been a dog groomer for just months, but already Emma Smith is proving a cut above the rest.
The 31-year-old scooped two of the top prizes at this year’s Eurogroom dog grooming contest.
The prestigious competition attracts groomers from all over the country.
But it was Emma and her giant schnauzer Blue who took home the Career Start title for newcomers and the coveted People’s Choice award, which is voted for by the public.
And that’s not bad for someone who completed her training only 10 months ago, after deciding to leave the pub and restaurant trade.
Emma, of Sheffield, trained as a dog groomer at the Pretty Paws training centre at Thongsbridge.
She then started work at the grooming salon, run by award-winning Alison Rogers.
Alison herself won second prize in the Standard Poodle class at the contest and says she’s proud of Emma for following in her footsteps.
She said: “Emma’s done extremely well and I’m especially proud because I’ve trained her. For a beginner to win the People’s Choice award particularly, which is really difficult, is fantastic and I believe the first time it’s ever happened.”
