A MAN has appeared in court for swearing at police and resisting arrest when they were called to reports of a disturbance at his home.

Kirklees magistrates heard yesterday how officers were called to a house in Heys Road, Thongsbridge, on June 8 and were confronted by the occupant James Bowers.

Prosecutor Linda Fowler said: “Mr Bowers shouted at police ‘**** off out of my house’ as they tried to approach his wife and he blocked their path.”

She said officers then attempted to restrain the defendant, but as they did so he resisted and they fell to the ground.

Bowers was then sprayed with CS gas.

The court heard in mitigation that Bowers, 31, had no previous convictions and the disturbance at the family home was a verbal argument.

He pleaded guilty to one charge of obstructing a constable in the execution of her or his duty.

Magistrates fined Bowers £75 and ordered him to pay costs of £85.
