LOCAL history lovers have been invited to take a tour through the industrial past of Thornhill Lees.

Ravenshall School, on Ravensthorpe Road, is hosting the exhibition Transforming Thornhill Lees on Wednesday, February 10. It catalogues the area’s industrial heritage and the people who helped make its history.

The exhibition, launched at Thornhill Lees Community Centre last July, was the culmination of nearly two years of work and research by a group of local residents and Kirklees Museums and Galleries staff.

It looks at the industries and the memorable characters who made the area internationally renown for coal, glass, transformers and blankets.

The exhibition features the stories of people who contributed to the working life of the village as well as items and photographs contributed by local residents.
