THOUSANDS of properties were plunged into darkness during a power cut last night that lasted over an hour-and-a-half.

YEDL, the electricity distributors for the area, told the Examiner 3,538 houses were affected.

The power cut out at 5.30pm after a fault on the high voltage network, and was back on by 7.04pm.

A spokesman for YEDL said they were still investigating what had caused the fault in the network.
