Three men have been arrested following a police chase on a busy route in to Huddersfield this morning.

They fled from a Vauxhall Vectra - believed to be linked to a burglary just 30 minutes earlier - which was seen travelling at speed along Halifax Road at Birchencliffe at 9.55am, followed by a number of police vehicles on blue lights.

A West Yorkshire Police dog unit was also spotted heading in the same direction as the police helicopter hovered overhead.

The vehicle is believed to have stopped near St Philip’s Church and four men got out and fled.

But police have since confirmed three suspects are in custody on suspicion of burglary at a commercial premise in Shipley at 9.27am today.

A worker at a local firm, who did not wish to be named said: “I saw the Vectra come careering down Halifax Road. There were police on either side and it stopped near the church.

“I am not sure if it was damaged but the people in the car got out and ran. The dogs van also went down after that and you could hear the police helicopter.”
