THREE drivers were arrested after a spate of similar crashes in Huddersfield just hours apart.

Police were kept busy as all three were detained on suspicion of drink driving.

All three were dramatic incidents.

The most spectacular happened on Woodhead Road, Berry Brow, at 1am on Saturday when a Vauxhall Vectra careered off the road, hit a lamppost, smashed through a wall and then plummeted 30ft down a banking.

The driver – a man in his 40s from Taylor Hill – managed to get out of the wreckage, but was then arrested by police.

Just two hours earlier a Citroen Xsara being driven from Golcar towards Slaithwaite hit a parked car on Radcliffe Road, Lower Wellhouse.

The parked BMW was shunted into a parked Ford Mondeo.

The driver was detained on suspicion of being over the limit.

And at 4am on Saturday a Subaru overturned after ploughing into two parked cars on Hall Cross Road in Lowerhouses.

The parked cars – a BMW and a Nissan Note – were badly damaged.

The driver – a man in his 30s – was slightly injured.

Again he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
