ANOTHER three post offices in Kirklees are set to close.

Branches in Batley at Carlinghow and Healey will shut on January 21 along with the post office at Liversedge.

The news of the axe follows an announcement that 10 other offices face closure in Huddersfield, Elland and Rastrick.

Seven have already been shut this year.

David Mellows-Facer, head of area for the Post Office Ltd, said: "We have received a number of comments and a petition from customers and local representatives during the consultation period.

"There has been a meeting held locally, attended by various elected representatives, during which we discussed our proposals for the area as a whole.

"The issues arising from this meeting have been very carefully considered, along with all other representations received on both an area and individual branch basis.

"We believe the area to be well served by local post office branches. Indeed there are a number of branches near to those branches proposed for closure."

Sub-postmasters across the country were asked whether they wanted to stay with the business or leave.

Post Office Ltd agreed with the sub-postmasters of Carlinghow, Healey and Liversedge Post Office branches that they should shut permanently in January.

"We remain confident that the closure of Carlinghow, Healey and Liversedge Post Office branches will improve the long-term prospects of the other branches in the area," said Mr Mellows-Facer.
