A STUDENT and his friends are aiming to scale Britain's three highest peaks to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Furkh Usman, 21, of Lime Street, Lockwood, and fellow former Greenhead College students Tom Wells, Alan Bowers and Ed Noble are hoping to complete the challenge in January 2005.

The Three Peaks walk features the highest peaks in England (Scafell at 978m), Scotland (Ben Nevis at 1,344m) and Wales (Snowdon at 1,085m).

Furkh, who is studying for a degree in health and sports studies at Huddersfield University, aims to complete the challenge - as much a road race as a strenuous series of climbs - in about 20 hours.

He is used to challenges - he has already cycled the length of Britain from John O' Groat's to Land's End.

He keeps himself busy, working part-time in Next, Kingsgate and as a volunteer at the Galpharm Stadium, and at children's camps in Sheffield.

Furkh chose to raise funds for Cancer Research UK after his aunt died from lung cancer.
