Three men have appeared in court over thefts of railway cables.

Aurel Balaiu, 40, and Romulus-Remus Muresan, 35, both of Field Street in Ravensthorpe, and Ghiorghita Lacatus, 21, of Sackville Street in Ravensthorpe, were before Kirklees magistrates.

All three men are charged with conspiring together to steal cable belonging to Network Rail.

The alleged offence happened in Dewsbury between October 10 and November 8 last year.

Magistrates committed the case to Leeds Crown Court where the men will first appear on May 13.

In the meantime they are subject to conditional bail.

These conditions include a curfew between 9pm and 6am and a ban on entering any Network Rail property.
