Three young men have been stabbed after a fight broke out in Holmfirth.

The men, aged 17, 19 and 21 were wounded on Victoria Street in the town centre, close to the bus station, at about 10.25pm last night.

Police say two are still in hospital at Huddersfield and Leeds but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Police also continuing to investigate the circumstances of the fight between two groups of males which, it is believed, may have followed on from a dispute at a house party in Netherthong earlier in the evening.

Detective Constable Shaun Topham from Huddersfield CID, said: “We think there’s been a house party in Netherthong where a large group of people have turned up uninvited.

“They’ve then made their way down to Holmfirth where this disorder has started.

“During that three males received various degrees of injuries – they are stab wounds.

“Two are still detained in hospital.”

Police cordoned off the scene last night but this morning there was no police presence in the normally sleepy Holme Valley village.

Local officers made a search of the area and conducted inquiries which remain ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Adrian Belle of Kirklees CID, said: "We are conducting inquiries into this incident today to build a clearer picture of what has taken place. It is fortunate no-one was more seriously injured in what was a very unusual incident for the Holmfirth area.

"This sort of behaviour will absolutely not be tolerated by Police or local residents and I would ask anyone who witnessed the fighting, knows the identities of those involved, or who has any information at all about the incident to contact Kirklees CID on 101.

"Information can also be passed in confidence to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111."
