A BUILDER has been banned from driving after being caught over the legal alcohol limit.

Stephen Ellis, 42, of Armitage Road, Armitage Bridge, pleaded guilty to driving when over the limit on June 29.

Prosecutor Vanessa Schofield told Huddersfield magistrates a breath test showed Ellis was more than three times over the limit.

His alcohol level of 112mg in breath compared with the legal limit of 35.

Ashad Khan, defending, said Ellis only drove to get away from his girlfriend after a row.

He accepted that he had done wrong.

The magistrates banned Ellis from driving for 28 months.

This will be reduced by a quarter if he completes a drink drivers’ rehabilitation course.

Ellis was also fined £750 and ordered to pay £60 court costs and a victim surcharge of £15.
