A THUG with a T-shirt tied around his head tried to rob a young woman pulling her luggage through a Huddersfield subway.

The 20-year-old victim from Springwood was pulling her suitcase through the Merton Street underpass beneath Huddersfield ring road when the thief struck at 4.30pm on Thursday.

He grabbed her shoulder bag so hard he dragged her to the ground. The strap broke and the thief started to flee with the bag, but then a good Samaritan intervened.

The 46-year-old man from Cowlersley saw what was happening and went to help the victim.

The robber dropped the bag and ran off.

He was described as white, aged 20 to 25 and thin with a blue T-shirt tied around his head.

He wore another T-shirt which was red or blue along with black trousers.

He may have been on Market Street in Huddersfield town centre near the Sainsbury's store about 15 minutes after his thwarted robbery bid.

Anyone who knows who he is or has any information should contact Pc Emma Holmes at Huddersfield CID's robbery team on 01484 436610.
