A MAN was attacked and robbed as he dropped off the takings from a Huddersfield garage to a post office.

He was punched in the face by two thugs as he walked towards Fartown Post Office yesterday.

Detectives hunting the attackers have appealed for witnesses.

The robbery happened shortly after 9.15am, when the man parked his car in Roydfield Street and set off to walk the few yards to the post office entrance in Fartown Green Road.

The men were not thought to be armed but grabbed the cash from the man after punching him.

It is thought they ran off towards Woodhouse Hill and Sheepridge.

A police spokesman said: “The man works for a local garage and he was taking money from over the holiday weekend to bank at the post office.”

Police carried out door to door inquiries in streets close to the post office.

Officers also searched a house at Sheepridge Road in connection with the investigation but no arrests have been made.

One of the thugs wore a grey hooded top and blue trousers, while the other wore dark clothing.
