A young man was knocked unconscious when he was attacked by three thugs in the early hours.

The 22-year-old man was hit in the face with a bottle as he made his way home to Newsome early today.

He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with a broken nose and facial injuries but was later allowed home.

Now detectives are hunting his attackers and have appealed for witnesses.

The man had been on a night out and was walking home at 2.30am. He had reached the junction of Barcroft Road and Blagden Lane when the thugs struck.

Police said he lost consciousness and had his mobile phone taken from him as he lay on the ground.

They have appealed for anyone who was in the Barcroft Road area in the early hours who may have seen anything to come forward.

The three attackers were all male and the one with the bottle was black.

Any witnesses should contact police via 101.
