THE man found dead in a an execution-style killing on a Clayton West road has been named.
Police have confirmed the victim has been identified as 45-year-old Christopher Hartley from the Batley Road area of Tingley.
A post mortem undertaken last night has revealed that he died from gun shot wounds.
Witnesses who reported the incident have told officers that they saw a silver Audi vehicle being driven away from the scene at around 10:30pm.
Senior investigating officer Detective Superintendent Chris Thompson is calling on the public for help in tracing the vehicle and its driver:
“The witnesses we have spoken to remember seeing a silver Audi saloon vehicle being driven away in the direction of Denby Dale Road.
“They believe it had a registration plate beginning with the letters ‘FP’ and that the driver was a white man wearing glasses.
“We are very anxious to trace this vehicle and driver in connection with our enquiries. I would appeal for the driver of the vehicle to come forward or anyone with any information regarding this to contact the police immediately.
“Think back. Were you in the area at the time and saw anything unusual? If so, let us know. The smallest piece of information could help in unravelling the circumstances behind this merciless killing.
“Following our initial investigations, we believe this incident is a targeted and focussed attack during an arranged meeting.
“Enquiries indicate that there is a drugs involvement in this incident and the motive is likely to be drugs related.
“Substances recovered from the scene are currently being examined by the Forensic Science Service.
