A FIFTH man has appeared in court charged with Gurmail Singh's murder.

Umare Aslam was brought before Huddersfield magistrates this morning accused of killing the Cowcliffe shopkeeper on February 20.

The 20 year-old, of Coniston Avenue in Dalton, is also charged with robbery at the shop on the same day.

He spoke only to confirm his name during the five-minute hearing and was remanded in custody to appear at Bradford Crown Court on Monday.

Four others have already been charged with murdering Mr Singh, who was found in a pool of blood after allegedly being hit at least nine times with a weapon, probably a hammer, at Cowcliffe Convenience Stores on Cowcliffe Hill Road.

Muawaz Khalid, 20, of Blackmoorfoot Road, Crosland Moor, and the three 17-year-olds who cannot be named for legal reasons are being held in custody.
