AN INQUEST was due to open today into the death of a pensioner in a fire at his village home.

A Bradford coroner was set to hear the initial details surrounding the death of Arthur Holmes on Tuesday night.

Mr Holmes, 88, was pulled from his farmhouse on Brownhill Lane in Holmbridge when fire broke out at about 9pm.

But medics were unable to save the much-loved pensioner and he was declared dead at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

It was unclear if the fire had claimed his life or if he died before it started.
