YOUNGSTERS have donated soft balls for African children.

And it was all thanks to an eight-year-old schoolboy.

Harry Vaughan asked his teacher at Thurstonland First School if they could donate unwanted soft balls for children living in Malawi.

The teacher agreed and now the whole school has backed the project supported by Christian African Relief Yorkshire.

Charity secretary Vanessa Stewart said: “The charity is completely reliant on volunteers and we have been fortunate to have been supported by Kirklees schools, particularly around harvest festival time.

“We are delighted that Thurstonland First School have got in touch and donated balls to children in Malawi.

“We have two volunteers visiting different areas in the summer and we will have the containers loaded up to dispatch in time.”

The balls have been collected from school and will make the long journey to Africa in the summer.
