HUDDERSFIELD Art Gallery is set to revisit the story of the Holmfirth Tiger with a day of educational craft activities.

The story of the Holmfirth tiger begins with a circus family called the Overends who came across a tiger cub whilst touring in South Africa in the 1940s.

With the outbreak of war, the family was forced to return to Holmfirth, with the cub- now named Fenella – in tow. It was a move that sparked controversy in the area and yet one that ensured Fenella’s place in local folklore with her story being recounted from generation to generation.

The craft day, scheduled for October 29, will have a range of activities aimed at children aged between six and 11. The event is free and all children must be accompanied by an adult. More information may be obtained by calling 01484 221949.
