MORE than 7,000 people have put their names to petitions to stop hospital services moving to Halifax.

And Kirklees Council leader Kath Pinnock has confirmed that senior officials are looking at calling a referendum.

Campaigners across Huddersfield have being collecting signatures since plans to shift services including maternity, children's and surgery to Calderdale Royal Hospital were announced last month.

Completed petitions were handed in at a campaign meeting this week.

So far they include more than 7,000 names.

Among them were 1,500 signatures collected by Newsome Street Watch Action Group.

The group plans to submit their petition to Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust later this month.
