THE National Coal Mining Museum near Grange Moor is rocking with a fun scheme.

It is hosting a free family fun event entitled Rock Art! this week.

Children can find out all about different rocks and stones and take part in decorating workshops.

They can also enjoy a walk on the museum’s nature trail or explore the adventure playground.

Families can also visit Hope Pit, a colliery complex with interactive games and live demonstrations.

There will be living history performances from wartime miner’s wife Mrs Lockwood and Fred the miner.

Children can accompany an ex-miner on a trip 140 metres underground to a working mine. Pit ponies and shire horses are also waiting to be paid a visit.

All the activities are free. For more details ring 01924 848806 or visit www.ncm.org.uk
