Time is fast running out for people wanting to make a nomination for the Pride of Huddersfield Awards.
Last year the Achievement Award at the awards was won by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
It helped to raise the charity’s profile even more and it has continued to save lives in the Huddersfield area.
Now we have launched this year’s awards and are seeking nominations until the deadline on Friday, February 12.
The awards ceremony will be staged at the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday, May 26, and once again the main host will be ITN newsreader Nina Hossain who is from Huddersfield and attended Newsome High School.
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAS) has been busy in our area since last year’s awards. Between July 1 last year and the end of last month it flew 53 missions in Huddersfield and Calderdale.
But the charity comes at a cost. It needs to raise £12,000 a day which is the equivalent to £4.4m a year.
YAS spokeswoman Abby McClymont said: “We currently attend over 1,000 missions a year, an average of three incidents every single day.”
The Achievement Award is just one of the awards presented on the night.
The other categories are Friend of the Year, Courage, Emergency Services Award, Services to the Community, Young Personality, Student Community, Services to Charity, Community Project, Community Event, Sports Personality, Sports Team and Arts Award.
Once the nominations close the judges will draw up a shortlist of three in each of the 12 categories and each will be highlighted in the Examiner in the fortnight before the awards. All those shortlisted will be invited to the event and the winner will be revealed on the night.
The judges decide the winner of the Achievement Award, although readers are more than welcome to send in suggestions.
