AN APPEAL for items to sell at a fundraising event to help the victims of the tsunami disaster has been overwhelming.
A plea has now gone out to the public to buy at the event, which will be staged at Huddersfield's newest community centre.
The Dram Centre, off Ridgeway in Dalton, will host the table top sale on Sunday. It will start at 10am and go on into the evening.
It kicks off with a table top sale and raffles, along with a fitness competition in the gym.
There will be a quiz at 4pm and bingo at 6.30pm.
Centre manager Jill Sykes said: "The response has been fantastic. Fourteen tables have already been sold at £5 each and we will have our own tables too to sell items which have been given.
"One lady came in with all kinds of donations.
"She also bought a nice bottle of port and a box of Thorntons chocolates for us to raffle.
"Now it is vital that people come along and spend their money for such an excellent cause," added Mrs Sykes.
ENGLAND soccer captain David Beckham has made fundraising for tsunami victims his goal after being appointed a Unicef goodwill ambassador.
He has already made a TV appeal as the organisation seeks to raise £76.5m to help the 1.5m children affected by the disaster in southern Asia and parts of Africa.
Beckham said: "I, like any other person, was deeply moved by the effects of the tsunami disaster.
"So many people have lost loved ones. Children particularly have suffered greatly, with over 1m who are vulnerable and at risk of disease.
"People have been so generous and it is important that they continue to donate money to organisations such as Unicef to help in aid relief and reconstruction."
STAFF at Skelmanthorpe Health Centre will hold a bring-and-buy sale and coffee morning to raise cash for tsunami victims.
It will take place at the health centre tomorrow from 10am to noon. All proceeds will go the Huddersfield Examiner / Unicef Children of Asia Appeal.
