A PRESSURE group wants action on fly-tipping.

The Countryside Alliance has produced a report on the problem, which it says costs taxpayers £100m a year.

Proposed solutions include extending opening hours at tips and reviewing fortnightly bin collections.

The group also wants councils to work more closely with landowners on the problem.

Alliance spokesman Richard Dodd said: “Everyone has a role to play in stamping out fly-tipping and this report sets out how, with more carrot and less stick, this can be achieved.

“Making legal disposal of waste easy and hassle-free is the key.

“Also, access to information must improve.

“We want to recycle and have a sustainable healthy environment, so it is insanity to have restrictive rules governing waste disposal.”
