AN asthma sufferer is putting on his running shoes to raise money for others with the condition.

Matt Barker, 34, will be taking part in the London marathon for the first time on April 22.

The Titanic Spa club manager will be running for Asthma UK, after being affected by the condition as a child.

Matt, who lives in Newsome, said:

“Exercise and treatment have helped me a lot so that as I’ve got older, it is not nearly as bad.”

He has been training hard for the event, running up to four times a week.

He has so far managed to achieve 20 miles.

“It will be the first time I’ve done the London marathon and I’m getting quite excited about it now,” said Matt.

“I’m really looking forward to the atmosphere.”

He has so far raised £900 against his £1,600 target.

His employer Titanic Spa has also stepped in to boost his fundraising, by donating £5 for every £130 eight-week membership people sign up for.
