The boss of Huddersfield's Tokyo nightclub says customer safety is 'paramount' to the business after part of man's ear was bitten off .

Clubbers witnessed the incident as staff first-aiders and security staff rushed to assist the victim after the attack on 2.16am on Sunday.

Police said the top of the 22-year-old man's left ear was bitten off.

The victim was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary then transferred to Bradford Royal Infirmary, where there are specialists in plastic surgery.

But despite the section of ear being recovered, surgeons did not attempt to re-attach it.

Tokyo’s spokesman Tony Rigg praised its management and staff who gave first-aid to the injured man and also detained the alleged attacker.

Mr Rigg speaking on behalf of Tokyo Industries, said: “Customer safety is of paramount importance to us.

“However on very rare occasions, such as this unique incident, the actions of an individual can have a negative impact on visitors.

“However, management and staff acted impeccably, caring for the injured person and apprehending the alleged perpetrator.”

Det Insp Andy Leonard, of Huddersfield CID, said: “We were called to reports of an assault at 2.16am on Sunday at Tokyo night club.
