A GOLCAR teenager has been chosen for a top honour in the Sea Cadet service.

Christopher Speight, 17, has been chosen to act as one of three Lord Lieutenant Cadets.

The Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, John Lyles selects a top cadet from each of the three cadet services - Sea, Air and Army - to escort him at formal occasions for the next 12 months.

Christopher has been a member of Huddersfield Sea Cadets for six years.

Christopher, Air Training Corps cadet Gregory Coles, of Bradley and the chosen member of the Army Cadet Force spoke about their experiences in the cadet services.

Their audience was 50 civic and military guests, plus parents.

Christopher went to Colne Valley High School and has now joined the Royal Navy, aiming for a career in electrical engineering.

He decided he wanted to join the Navy after going on a cadet trip to Gibraltar on HMS Ocean, the Royal Navy's latest aircraft carrier.
