SENIOR police officers were today taking to the streets of Huddersfield at the launch of a Christmas crackdown.

And they had a frosty warning for thieves: Come to Huddersfield at your peril.

Senior managers from the division were heading out on high-visibility patrols with regular officers across the town centre this week to crack down on criminals in the last few days before Christmas.

The officers will be providing high visibility patrols to reassure the public, target offenders and to ward off anyone intent on committing crime.

Divisional Commander, Chief Supt Barry South said: "We have emptied the police station of all available staff including myself, to provide highly visible reassurance to those visiting the town."
