A HUDDERSFIELD volunteer has won a national award at a London ceremony for his work in helping other people.
Morris Simpson, a learning network development officer in the Ashbrow ward of Kirklees Council, scooped an award for employee innovation at the Third Sector Excellence Awards at Hurlingham Club, Chelsea.
Mr Simpson, 31, works for community action enterprise Fresh Horizons, Deighton, helping people back into education, training and work.
The father-of-two helped to write You Live and You Learn, which was performed by members of the Fartown High School Community Theatre Group.
It told of their experiences in overcoming difficulties and turning round their lives.
Mr Simpson, from Sheepridge, said: “It felt great to be nominated and to win was ecstatic.
“I feel proud to know I’ve come from Deighton and gone to London and scooped an award and made Huddersfield proud.”
