ALLOTMENT holders are being given a chance to pick up some free tips on how to grow vegetables.

The training day, organised by the Environmental Alliance, will be held at the Taylor Hill Technical College annex at Close Hill Lane, Newsome, on Saturday, November 26, from 10am to 3pm.

Throughout the year the Environmental Alliance has been running free sessions encouraging people to take up allotment gardening and reduce the number of derelict allotment plots in Kirklees.

On November 26, Susy Feltham from the Alternative Technology Centre in Hebden Bridge, will be giving tips on clearing weeds, preparing soil, composting, pest control and growing organic vegetables.

People who attend will receive a free planting calendar with advice on what to grow and when to grow it.

Environmental Alliance is a not-for- profit company working with local communities to enhance their quality of life by improving footpaths, bridleways and green spaces.

Anyone who would like to attend should contact Clare Christian from the Environmental Alliance on 01484 533422 or email her at clare.christian@environmental-alliance. co.uk
