1 Use your green bin for your paper, cardboard, drinks cans and plastic bottles.
2 Recycle your old Christmas cards either in your green bin or at Tesco and W H Smith stores.
3 Buy a UK-grown real Christmas tree with roots so that you can plant it in the garden or keep it in a pot for next year. If your tree cannot be replanted, take it to one of the five household waste and recycling sites to be composted.
4 Take any unwanted gifts to a charity shop.
5 Take re-usable shopping bags to the supermarket and avoid using carrier bags whenever possible.
6 Compost fruit and vegetable peelings in the compost bin.
