BUS lanes should be open to other users, says a local Tory councillor.

The new Conservative policies, to be debated in the Commons as amendments to the Traffic Management Bill, would allow vehicles with two or more adult passengers to also use bus lanes.

Clr Light said the measures suggested by the Conservatives were a step forward in the fight to improve the flow of traffic across West Yorkshire's roads and cut journey times.

"It's time to end the farce of half-used bus lanes, which do nothing to alleviate congestion on major roads throughout the borough," he said.

Clr Light also attacked Government plans to extend the use of CCTV on bus lanes to make it easier to fine motorists who use them.

"As ever, the Government appears more interested in using drivers as a cash cow than actually keep traffic moving in a sensible way," he said.
