A BOY of two miraculously survived a 30ft fall from a window at his parents' wedding reception.

But little Thomas Bellamy suffered massive head injuries, including four skull fractures, in the fall.

Against the odds, however, the toddler pulled through and is now back at home in Thorn Avenue, Thornhill, with relieved parents, Ann and Derek.

The accident happened just a few hours after the couple's marriage at Dewsbury Register Office.

Guests had gathered for the reception at nearby Edge Top Working Men's Club, which is run by Derek's mother, Jenny.

Ann, 25, said: "We'd had a lovely day and everything was going fine.

"But after a bit, Thomas started to get cranky so I took him up to bed. We keep a travel cot in one of the bedrooms for when he stays there.

"I took his shoes and socks off, but left his suit on. I covered him up and waited a few minutes to make sure he had settled before leaving him.

"We have done it a thousand times before. Then I went back to the reception downstairs.

"A bit later, Derek said he would go and check on Thomas. He came back five minutes later and said he couldn't find him."

Thinking that Thomas was hiding, Ann went upstairs to help Derek look.

As they frantically searched the flat, they noticed a chair had been pushed up against the kitchen window.

"My heart just stopped. I thought, `he couldn't have gone out of the window'," said Ann.

"But then Derek looked out and shouted, `Yes, yes, he's out there'.

"I looked out and saw him on the ground and thought, `my son is dead'."

Thomas was rushed to Dewsbury District Hospital but his head injuries were so severe that he was transferred to Leeds General Infirmary for specialist care.

He was kept in intensive care for six days, where his parents stayed at his bedside. He was finally allowed back home last week, 17 days after the accident. Derek said: "He is sleeping in our bedroom now and we are not letting him out of our sight."
