AT an age when most people are putting their feet up Pat Ainsworth is lacing up her running shoes.

The 62-year-old from Emley will take part in her 11th London Marathon on Sunday.

Pat said: “My personal best is 4hr 10min, but I’ve got my bus pass these days so I’ll settle for 4hr 30min this time.

“I’ve lost my speed but I’m still strong, so I’ve no doubt I’ll finish it.”

Pat, an education administrator at New Hall Prison in Flockton, is running for Cancer Research. She said: “It’s an important cause for me because four of my colleagues are being treated for cancer.”

Pat has been doing 18 to 20-mile runs around Emley Moor for the past three months. She said: “The hills have made me slow but strong. I’m a tough cookie.”

Pat started running 15 years ago and has completed 10 marathons in London and one in New York.

She said: “Completing a marathon was an ambition of mine. Doing it was a life-changing experience. It’s something that only other runners understand.”
