A feast of entertainment is being put together to delight Tour de France fans.

Kirklees Council have arranged huge Spectator Hubs in St George’s Square and at Sands recreation ground in Holmfirth.

And they hope thousands will turn up not only to see the world’s top racing cyclists but also to watch the rest of the day’s action on giant screens and to enjoy a packed programme of events.

People will be allowed to take along their own fold-up chairs and cushions to sit on.

Saturday, July 5:

10:00am to 11:00am Family hour: Pop along with the kids and enjoy some short films made by local school children and some animations from local artists.

11:00am to 5:00pm Tour de France: Watch the race as it sets off from Leeds and winds its way through some stunning Yorkshire landscapes.

5:00pm to 7:00pm Grab a bite to eat and enjoy a mixture of family friendly short films, animations and music videos including films made by local school children and local artists.

7:00pm to 9:00pm Mamma Mia! Sing and dance along to this fun feature film and enjoy the party atmosphere!

9:00pm to 10:00pm Velorama: Bring the evening to a close with something more mellow. Listen to the dreamy electronic music of Bill Nelson and the legendary Yorkshire tones of Chumbawumba in a specially-commissioned new feature-length documentary from Sheffield Doc/Fest showing a century of the Bicycle on film.

Sunday July 6

10:00am to 5:30pm Tour de France build up and coverage. Don’t miss a moment as the tour comes through Kirklees.

5:30pm to 6:00pm Family Time - Grab a bite to eat and enjoy a mixture of family friendly short films, animations and music videos including films made by some of our local artists.

6:00pm to 7:00pm Velorama: Another chance to see the two-wheeled journey set to the music of Bill Nelson and Chumbawumba, specially-commissioned new feature-length documentary from Sheffield Doc/Fest.

7:00pm to 9:00pm Grease: Sing, dance and enjoy this much-loved classic.

9:00pm to 10:00pm Belleville Rendezvous: Set almost entirely to music, this quirky animated film involves cycling, eccentric music hall stars and the evil French mafia! There wil also be Circus Skills Worskhops, offering lessons in juggling, plate spinning and much more.

Saturday, July 5:

5pm to 6pm Family time

Grab a bite to eat and enjoy a mixture of family friendly short films, animations and music videos including films made by local schoolchildren as well as work from local artists.

6pm to 10pm Enjoy a cornucopia of films including French classic and award-winning animation cycling film, The Triplets of Belleville.

Sunday, July 6:

10am to 11am Tour de France build up and coverage

5.30pm to 6pm Family time

Grab a bite to eat and enjoy a mixture of family friendly short films, animations and music videos including films made by some of our local artists.

7.30pm Watch the rousing and wonderfully optimistic Oscar nominated cycling feature, Breaking Away.

Holmfirth will also host the Pendragon Round Table Duck Race, with some 10,000 plastic ducks being deposited in the River Holme in an event aimed at raising thousands of pounds for charity.

And there will also be the Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival, with many stalls and traders offering everything from real ale to cheeky pickles.
