A HUDDERSFIELD actress will appear in Coronation Street next month.

Kashelle Taylor, 25, of Fartown was delighted to win a part on the top soap – even if she is to play the part of a yobbish girl involved in a brutal attack on a police officer!

“I was over the moon when I found out,” she said.

Kashelle, who has also been in Doctors and Emmerdale, will appear in Coronation Street on September 3.

She said: “I play one of four girls who is out drinking. We end up going outside and having an argument, then Mel Morton sees us fighting and intervenes and we end up attacking her.”

Kashelle filmed the scene at Granada’s Manchester studio last month.

She said: “We had to have fight training to make sure no-one got hurt.

“I got to meet some of the cast, including the guy who plays Dev. It was great, I’ve been a Corrie fan for ages, I grew up watching it.”

Kashelle added: “I’d love to get a permanent part on the show.”

The Fartown singer and actor has had a busy 12 months.

She appeared on the last series of X Factor and then landed a series of roles in TV shows.

Kashelle, who worships at Shabach Outreach Ministry on St John’s Road, said: “It’s amazing, the church is like a family to me.”

Her first breakthrough had come when she won a role on BBC drama Doctors in 2001 but things started to go wrong when she moved to London to further her career in 2002.

She said: “I went there to get famous but instead I came back to Huddersfield the next year pregnant.

“Being a single mother made me feel suicidal. I hardly left the house and I put on so much weight, going from a size 10 to a size 20.”

But back in Huddersfield with her son A’Tahje, who is now five, things turned around for Kashelle when she joined Shabach, a church in Birkby and was encouraged to use her talents.

Kashelle’s role in Emmerdale saw her playing Kelly Windsor’s bridal hairdresser Melanie. She did two days of filming and described it as “an amazing experience.”

She also tried her hand at singing, auditioning for a pop group.
